    Development Alternatives (DA) has been awarded a project under the Tribal 
    Development Fund of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), 
    to strengthen the livelihoods of 500 tribal families from Jhansi District 
    through interventions in the area of Natural Resource Management
 
 l  DA is 
    undertaking a scoping study to design innovative implementation models on 
    the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in the state of 
    Bihar, with the support from the World Bank and the Government of Bihar
 
 l  Earth 
    Day was celebrated on April 22, 2009 with CLEAN-India Delhi schools and slum 
    schools under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) in 
    partnership with Nehru Memorial Museum and Library at Teen Murti. A Carbon 
    Footprint calculator was released along with the book on being a green 
    consumer
 
 l  The 
    Green Generation campaign and Delhi Environment Action Network (DEAN) the 
    new ‘avtar’ was launched on the Earth Day, 2009. Youth groups, CSOs and the 
    local community participated in the campaign

    With the support from the World Bank, Development Alternatives has taken up 
    an initiative to introduce Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln (VSVK) technology in 
    Bangladesh at a pilot scale. The project is being implemented with the 
    active support from Skat, Switzerland and is locally anchored by Practical 
    Action, Bangladesh. The project aims to demonstrate reduction in 
    environmental emissions and energy efficiency in the Bangladesh brick sector 
    through introduction of new technologies

    A mission team comprising Drs Arun Kumar, TARA, Soumen Maity, DA and Veena 
    Joshi, SDC undertook a pre-feasibility study of the South African brick 
    industry during the period March 28 - April 6, 2009

    A techno-economic package developed for dust control in stone crushing units 
    using cyclones has been successfully demonstrated under the International 
    Development Research Centre (IDRC) funded project
 
 l 
    The Interactive SoE Atlas Website, designed and developed by DA for the MoEF, 
    Government of India is getting a very good response from different 
    stakeholders (governments, academics, NGOs, research institutions, etc.). 
    Currently, the content of the SoE Atlas is being updated
